UNESCO Living Heritage Award
Three schools from around the country are being recognised for their websites on local heritage with the UNESCO Living Heritage Award. The schools are:
Dame Sylvia Cartwright and UNESCO Deputy Director General, Marcio Barbosa presented the Living Heritage Awards to the schools as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee's meeting in Christchurch on 25 June, 2007.
The NZ National Commission for UNESCO has established the Award to celebrate New Zealand schools' achievements in capturing heritage resources for future generations.
This competition is for projects that use information and communication technologies (ICT) for youth education and training. The judges recognised the value of Living Heritage’s partnerships of public, private, and community resources in creating innovative projects that have a real impact on the learning opportunities across the generations. Their citation stated “The work [shown by Living Heritage projects] is inspirational, flexible and living proof of the potential for ICT to transform the way young people see and interact with their local heritage.”
