Oamaru Performing Arts Competitions!

Oamaru Performing Arts Society!

Calling all performers! Come and perform at the Oamaru Performing Arts Society! The Oamaru Performing Arts Society (O.P.A.S for short) used to be called Oamaru Competitions.

If you dance, sing, play an instrument or learn speech, then O.P.A.S is for you. The Performing Arts Competitions are held yearly in May. Your teacher should get a schedule and entry form in the post, and if not, they can get you one.

We interviewed two ladies called Mrs Campbell and Mrs Watson who are life members and asked them how they became members. Their responses were that Mrs Watson danced when she was young and Mrs Campbell's daughter danced.

You can also recieve prizes like cups, money, medals and rosettes. There is also an Entertainment Night that the ladies enjoy a lot. Any ages can compete, from about two years to 92 years.

In Oamaru there is a shortage of tap dancing teachers. But Mrs Watson still teaches some dancing.

Did you know? Only Gore and Oamaru still hold Performing Arts Competitions.
