- The background

Oamaru is a town of which there is much to celebrate and of which people do celebrate.  There are the historic buildings in the historic precinct, there is the Oamaru Stone, of which the stone Symposium each February attracts sculptures from all over New Zealand.  There is the Victorian Celebrations in the Historic Area every November and of late Oamaru has also become well known for its Whitestone Cheese.  
AND. . . . 
  365  days of the year, visitors from all over the world come to view the Little Blue Penguins come ashore on dusk.
