NESTING

Penguin Egg

In a life time of a penguin she lays about
15-20 eggs.

Penguins are 2-5 months old before they go to sea for 2 months. The parents go to sea to get their body weight back to normal.

At the penguin colony the nesting boxes for the little blue penguin are situated around the colony in the mounds and at the base of the hills.

The boxes have been man made to assist in the breeding programme.  Penguins also nest under old sheds around the harbour area and on the foreshore.
