ANIMALS ON THE FARM

The main kind of sheep raised in this area is the merino. The merino can survive the rough landscape and the severe weather. Merino sheep are raised for their fine wool and also their meat.

Angus, Hereford and Charollais cattle are raised for their meat - beef. More farmers are changing to Angus cattle as they are a hardier breed on the hills. Now that some farms have more access to irrigation, they are beginning to move into dairying.
