THE BIRDS' HOMES

An aviary is called a flight. Birds are able to stay in the same flight. Their habitat is very much like the wild. Each flight has branches for birds to perch on, and a stream flows through underneath. They are all pebbly and rocky. Their homes also contain flax bushes for the birds to hide in.

A BIRD'S DIET

A bird's diet includes apple, sunflower seeds, oats, water, bread, dandelions, chickweed, millet seeds, worms, nuts and fruit.

TYPES OF BIRDS

Most birds are from England. You will find these birds at the Oamaru Gardens - peacocks, pigeons, doves, budgies, hens, parakeets, parrots and cockatiels. Most of these creatures have beautiful, coloured feathers and some of the birds talk!

CARE OF BIRDS

Mrs and Mr. Gibbs look after the birds. They have been caring for these birds for many years. This involves visiting the birds several times a week. Bands are put around the birds' legs so they can tell which year they got them.
