Chinese Garden

The dragon tiles were made in China. The Chinese Garden was built in 1995 to celebrate the contribution that the Chinese community has made to Oamaru and North Otago over the years. It is a living memorial to them.

Fragrant Garden

This special garden is used for smelling and touching and is loved by the blind and elderly. It contains lavender, stock and bay leaves. This garden was first developed by Superintendent Graeme Hall, and re-designed last year by Graham Mackie. Mr Denny (past mayor), opened the Fragrant Garden in 1984.

The Fernery

This is found in the NZ native area. It is completely covered in black netting and is full of beautiful tree ferns including silver ferns, Prince of Wales ferns, hen and chicken ferns and button ferns. We felt like we were in Jurassic Park when we visited!
