Garden workers

The Garden's workers change and water the plants. They cut the edges and prune the rose bushes. They look after the gardens really well. To make their work easier, they drive round on little tractors or little carts which have bins attached, to put garden rubbish in.

Special occasions

There are many special occasions happening in the Oamaru Public Gardens each year. These include a wine and food festival and a walkathon. You can take a trip on a horse and cart, and you can enjoy a relaxing look right through the gardens. You can start this trip at the Brydone Hotel and ask the driver to take you through the Gardens.

Plant facts

Did you know that an annual only flowers once? The gum tree is the tallest tree in the gardens and the oldest is the macrocarpa tree. The workers change the bedding plants twice each year, in October and April.
