General Information

Some trees are evergreen. Some are deciduous. Deciduous trees lose their leaves in autumn. Some trees have been in the Gardens for over 100 years. Many of the bedding plants come from Weston Nursery, which is a 10 minute drive from Oamaru. There are over 18,000 bedding plants planted every year. Bedding plants last for six months. Some bedding plants you can see are dahlias, begonias, lobelia, polyanthus, tulips, dianthus and petunias.

Where they come from

The plants, shrubs and trees come from all around the world. The Camperdown Elm has a great tree hut in its branches.

Large Trees

The macrocarpa tree is one of the biggest in the gardens. We estimated its circumference at 12-13 metres. The Redwood is another huge tree, and we estimated its circumference at nine metres.
