Parkside Quarry

Agricultural lime left the quarry by railway.

The lime was  pushed into wagons from a ramp by a bulldozer – the wagons sat on a weigh bridge. Later the wagons were filled from the high hopper through chutes.

The trains came into the limeworks to be loaded and unloaded.

Empty wagons were left in the morning and picked up full at the end of the day.

Lime was sent to rail depots anywhere between Clinton in the south and Ashburton in the north.

Once the railway was closed, the line was lifted. All lime now leaves by road transport.
