ICKY STICKY TRAIN TRACKS

In 1870, they first discussed putting a railway line up the valley.  In 1871 they decided to go ahead with the railway line.

It took three years to build the Oamaru – Ngapara line, finishing in  1877.
In 1887 the Windsor to Tokarahi line was built.

They built the railway because they would walk or go on horse and cart. It helped the farmers to transport their crop.

 

In 1930 the Windsor to Tokarahi line was taken out.

Unemployed people were used to demolish the line.

 

In 1959, Ngapara to the limeworks was taken out.

In 1999 the limeworks to Waiareka Junction was removed .
