Tapawera Area School - Secondary

Hello.

We are a group of Year 10s from Tapawera Area School, which is situated in the Tasman Region, near Nelson, NZ.

We would like to dedicate this site to our local community, school and any other people that would like to learn about our little town’s history.

Happy reading.

Current photograph of Tapawera Area School administration building taken in June 2011. The black chain is from the Wahine that sunk on 10 April 1968 in Wellington’s Harbour. It was the Lyttelton-Wellington Ferry and was New Zealand’s worst maritime disaster. Each chain link represents all the small schools that existed in the district. In 1943 all the small valley schools were amalgamated forming Tapawera District High School. Tapawera Area School came into being in 1975.
