Ngā wai o Tamaki: Auckland's rivers

Waihorotiu

Waihorotiu (Ligars Canal) started at Myers Park...

...then entered a swamp at Aotea Square, and emerged at Wellesley Street and descended into a small waterfall at the Victoria Street intersection.

The Waihorotiu begins behind the red building on the left and runs down the left hand side of Queen Street.

At first Waihorotiu was used for a water supply and then a drain. It became a polluted sewer.
