Library and Computer Room

Kia orana.

Our names are Tehana and Mark. The following is an interview with Steve Anderson about the computer room at Apii Te Uki Ou School.

In 2003, my wife Erica and I offered to donate to the school a portable building completely equipped as a computer room. The decision was reached on the basis that Apii Te Uki Ou was (and is) the best primary school in the Cook Islands, but it would be even better with a computer room. We wanted the school, the staff and the pupils to have the best possible resources. Erica and I are the owners of Anderson's which is an electrical, air conditioning and solar energy company. We built up the new classroom at our workshop, complete with computer benches, wiring and air-conditioning, We had the building trucked to the school and placed by a crane. Then all the computer equipment was installed and set up ready for use.

The school named the computer room the “Anderson Suite” after the original donors of the first computer building and equipment. The original Anderson Suite was opened by the Hon. Jim Marurai in mid 2003.

Since that time, the school has built new classrooms, and the computer equipment was transferred to what is now the Anderson Suite. Additional computers were installed, and a number of new facilities and programs were added. The original donated building was then converted to the Learning Support room.

We are parents of two children who have been educated at Apii Te Uki Ou - who are now both finishing their education in New Zealand. They have both been able to make a success of their education based on the excellent primary schooling they received at Apii Te Uki Ou.
