Wairakei Terraces

In November 2000 Contact Energy assisted Netcor with reinstating the stream to its original bed allowing the thermal waters of Te Kiri O Hinekai to flow once again through the Waiora Valley.

In 1996 Contact Energy and Netcor redeveloped the original Wairakei Terraces. Contact Energy and Ngati Tuwharetoa wanted to recreate the Terraces.

The Honeymoon Pool is now known as Te Kiri o Hinekai.

The Terraces have been initially fashioned by mans hands.

The main pool was closed in the 1960s because the warm water was diverted from running into the Honeymoon Pool because of the construction of the Wairakei Terraces.

The Honeymoon Pool was known as the healing and bathing spa and was used by rich people and Maori people.
