Kakanui School

The first school was opened  on March the third 1873. It was developed beside the church.

Andrew Blane was 21  when he became the first headmaster of Kakanui School. The children loved him but he was weak and died at the end of the year.

Kakanui School today has  44 children, two teachers  and a teacher/principal, a  secretary and teachers' aide. 

In 1967 Kakanui School was  pulled  down to make room for a new school, the one here now.
