Special Needs

Kia Orana, our names are Sienna and Ruby and we have interviewed June Hosking about special needs at Apii Te Uki Ou.

Mrs. Kathy Nooroa, the founder of Apii Te Uki Ou Primary School believed in giving everyone a fair chance and so do I. The students with special needs were perfectly capable of being in a normal classroom and would do as well as everybody else with assistance. On Rarotonga 53 children of school age were special needs but sadly, only 13 were attending school. Teachers learn tricks for teaching that could be used with other students and Apii Te Uki Ou was blessed by gifts for special needs programmes that have benefited us all. The students with special needs have had individual teacher aids where possible. These were volunteers for the first few years. Along the way we had heaps of input from generous people.
Thank you June Hosking

Apii Te Uki Ou is committed to providing for students with special needs in the future. This is reflected in the building projects in the school with access ramps, extra wide doorways, and covered walk ways in all the buildings.
Thank you Jason Ataera our very own principal.

We, Sienna and Ruby believe every special needs student should be given the opportunity to work in a normal classroom and be a normal kid.
