The Motu Scenic Reserve

This is now a Department Of Conservation reserve.
It is unique because it is an oxbow lake. That means it is a crescent-shaped lake lying alongside a winding river.

The Government approved 70 acres of native bush and lagoon for scenic reserve in 1913. Visitors from the Motu Hotel would often go boating on the reserve in the early 1900’s when the Motu Hotel was at its most popular.

Some local people still go boating in the reserve today.
