History

The Kakanui river mouth used to have annual carnival days where they would have boat races, picnics, swims and all sorts Also if you look closely you can see a long slide which is not there now because of safety reasons.

Also there used to be a harbour down by the river mouth which was where the boats came in and out  but sadly the harbour was wrecked in a storm and was never repaired and this is  the remains. It's a very fuzzy old photo.
