Fraser’s Pit
  • Fraser's pit is the biggest hole in New Zealand.
  • Fraser's pit is an open cast mine which means that the mining is done above ground
  • The different jobs involved at the mine include miners, drillers, drivers, geologists, plant operators and bomb crew.

  • In 2007 the underground  mine started.
  • There is enough space in the underground tunnel to put two trucks side by side.
  • Underground miners came from Australia because there hadn't been any underground mining before at Macraes.

  • This Concrete sprayer puts concrete on the underground tunnel walls and roof to stop the rock from falling down.
