Historic Faces of Christchurch

The heritage that gives our city its identity

We're an inner city school, right in the heart of the CBD (Central Business Distict). Our school buildings are located in Cashel Mall - one is an old building dating from the 1890s and originally the premises of the D.I.C. (Drapery Importing Company); our other building is only a couple of year old and takes up the top five floors of the Hallensteins building on High St (see photo). Our school is in its fifth year of operation; at the moment there are 340 students and 30 learning advisors (teachers) at our school.

We are surrounded by heritage buildings but there are also heaps of new buildings (especially hotels and banks) close by. We use the city's resources lots in our daily learning - the central library, art galleries, The Arts Centre, museum, the Square and cathedrals are all in easy walking distance. It is good to understand a little about our learning environment, especially the heritage buildings.
