ABOUT THE CLUB

The Oamaru Collie Dog Club holds dog trials once a year for two days in April.

If you win enough points you can go to the South Island's dog trials.

About 12O dogs competed this year.

ABOUT THE DOGS

There are two kinds of dogs  A heading dog and a huntaway.

A heading dog does not bark, it eyes the sheep.

A huntaway barks at the sheep to make them move.

The owners tell the dogs what to do with whistles and shouts commands.

WHAT THEY DO

The dogs have to move the sheep to certain places.

There are four events.  Two for huntaways and two for heading dogs.

Heading dogs do the long pull and the short head and yard.

Huntaways to a straight hunt and a zig zag hunt.

WHAT THEY PAY

You have to pay an entry fee to compete in the Collie Dog Club competition.  But you might win it back as prize money.  To be a member of the Collie Dog Club you need to pay a sub each year.
